Benjamin Moore Satin Impervo Drying Time – We have been living with our old kitchen for 3 years since we bought our house and now it was time to renovate. The first thing on our list is to paint our cabinets. This is how we did it and we love the new updated look. We’re still deciding whether to follow the farmhouse style or polish it, but that’s how we got there.
Before you start, note: This is a very time consuming DIY project. We need a two-month weekend work schedule with occasional evenings and free time.
Benjamin Moore Satin Impervo Drying Time
1. Remove hardware and cover. Our hinges are hidden to stay in place and I paint around them. Note: Cracks in the walls or the junction of the cabinets are hidden and invisible if the cabinets are darker. If you’re using white, take the time to fill in the cracks and sand with a sandable/paintable/flexible sealant.
Traditionalists Will Tell You That You Shouldn’t Paint Your Floors. They’re Wrong.
3. Place hardware, hinges, and screws in each bag and make sure each area is close together. We glued it on cabinets and drawers.
4. We sanded the bottom of the cabinet and the individual doors. The Dremel Multi-Max is ideal for getting into gutters and hard-to-reach places.
5. Clean the door, remove dirt and sawdust. We also stuffed newspaper into the large hinge holes to prevent paint build-up/drip.
6. Prepare the painting area. We provide two fields. One for spray and the other for brush painting technique. Tape the bottom of the cabinet where it meets the wall, floor and ceiling. A note on removing the tape – before removing the tape, run a Xacto knife where the tape meets the upholstery to avoid removing paint from the cabinet. Also – I put newspaper to remove the wet strips so the waste is not sticky and messy.

7. We use a paint sprayer to apply the primer. You did a great job with the scope. Practice first to get the technique down and get the air out of the queue. We had to water the foundation. Surprisingly, we used much less than expected. Cleaning the sprayer is easy – just run water through the line and nozzle until it runs clear. Two coats of primer are sprayed on half of the door. Let it dry. Rotate and repeat. He then moved that door to another location and placed it on a paint can to lift it and sprayed the other half twice, then flipped it over and painted two coats of primer on the other side. * Wear protective equipment, including respirators and goggles.
If you are using spray paint, practice before doing the project. Learning how to get the right consistency (thin the paint) and get an even coating is very difficult. We had to re-varnish and start over. If you are not familiar with spray paint, I recommend using a brush.
8. For the actual paint, I tried both a foam roller and a Purdy brush for the first coat. I use a brush instead. I liked that it completely covered every area and because we wanted to see the grain of the wood, I was able to apply the paint in the direction of the grain.
Ck. Dries to an enamel-like surface. You can easily wipe up spills with a dry towel! It’s also self-balancing and a great choice for its durability (worth the extra dollar).
Re: Oil Based Paint Will Not Dry, Over Tinted?
Tip: Use a screwdriver and hammer to make small holes in the sides of the box. It will act as a drain for the paint that has accumulated there and will make life easier if the cap is easy to put back on and not “glued” with paint when it dries.
10. Replace cover and hardware after dry. You’ll be happy to know that once time has passed, the doors are marked and every cabinet/drawer has hardware. fresher. We were both surprised at how much difference it made to the more classic look of our kitchen.
The new color is actually not white, but gray. This is Benjamin Moore’s Moonshine. (I don’t know why they renew that day 9 years ago!) We purchased our paint from our local True Value store.

That’s another post we’ll cover another time. For now, this is just a Benjmi Moore Satin Impervo oil painting review.
Richmond Hardware’s Top 3 Exterior Benjamin Moore Paints For 2021
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you know that I often try new paints. As someone who paints and polishes furniture, I think it’s important to have knowledge and experience of different types of products. No paint is perfect. Everyone has preferences and needs for the paint they need for appearance and performance. Different paints work best for different projects.
I have used Benjamin Moore Satin Impervo three times. I put in 2 wardrobes, this is Navy Faux Bamboo and this is Mid Century Grey. Before I painted the two pieces, I bought a $3 white box to play with. As I mentioned earlier, this is the first oil-based product I’ve ever sprayed. When I first tried BM Advance, I completed a small shelf and painted half of it. I practice on the shelf with white SI (impervo satin), so I don’t care if it gets too bad.
